Philippines: A Walk Into Paradise: Kawasan Falls

Cebu is the 9th largest island in the Philippines and home to some beautiful landscapes, beaches and waterfalls. On my 4th day in Cebu I took a 5 hour city bus trip from Cebu City through the mountains to a small town of Matutianao, Bandian, in southwest Cebu, to visit the all famous Kawasan Falls.

Kawasan Falls is located in the heart of the jungle and has all kinds of exciting activities. There you can find the most beautiful turquoise water, great places to relax and see the waterfall, rafts to float on in the water, canyoneering and even cliff diving.

From the main highway it takes about 15 to 30 minutes to reach the falls. Before entering the path, you will find guides that will try to tell you how much you NEED a guide in order to get the the waterfall, but don’t buy it.

The walk is straightforward and you won’t get lost.

If you are looking to save money, eat before you go to the waterfall, because once you get there, like in all tourist places, the prices will go up. Bring a backpack full of water, snacks (don’t leave the Philippines without trying dried banana chips and their mangos) and its the perfect place for a small picnic if your on a budget.

Also, just a word of advice: BE CAREFUL when jumping from the rocks.

I was about to go head first, but luckily I decided to just jump in feet first and I landed on a big rock and almost had to visit the emergency room. Don’t let your experience at Kawasan Falls turn into a nightmare!
