Photos to Inspire you to Travel to Brunei

After exploring the beautiful country of Malaysia, I made my way east to the small Islamic nation of Brunei, a country that many tourists never even think to visit in their venture across Southeast Asia.

Brunei is located on the northern coast of the island of Borneo, easily accesible by crossing overland by Malaysia or through its international airport.  Its a very unique and conservative country, that is rich in Malay culture, architecture and with Islam as its heart and soul.

Brunei is the perfect place for travelers that are wanting to escape the typical tourist traps and explore unmarked territory. I was pleasantly surprised by the quietness throughout the city and the fact that I did not meet a single tourist. I found that locals were friendly, open and as a female sole traveler, I felt safe and had no problems.

Some of the top attractions include:

  • Kampong Ayer (The Water Village)
  • Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque
  • Istana Nural Imam
  • Jerudong Park

In all honesty, Brunei was not the most exciting country, but I did get a chance to stay with an amazing local family, connect and try out some of their delicious cuisine, which is very similar to that of Malaysia.
