As I think back to the girl that nervously left the USA the first time, I can’t even begin to compare the difference until now.
“Sarah, don’t you get lonely always traveling alone?” I get asked countless times a day
Traveling alone in many cases does not actually mean that you are always alone. In fact it is far from the truth in my situation, especially given that I am staying with a host in every city.
This experience has challenged me to break out of my comfort zone and do things I might of never done if I were traveling with another person.
So why do I travel alone long term?
Here are my top reasons for taking this leap of faith alone:
- Developing a best friend relationship with yourself
- Finding confidence that you never knew you had
- Freedom to plan our own schedule and do whatever you want
- Its easier to find a couch surfing host and a ride hitchhiking
- Becoming an expert decision maker
- Being forced past your comfort zone
- In many cases, locals (especially families) will spoil you
- Freedom to spend your money how you want
- The feeling of accomplishment and strength as your put your courage to action
