Achieving your Dreams with Hard Work

When I was 15 years old I made a decision that changed the course of my whole life.

It was a decision that I knew would take a lot of sacrifice, hard work, dedication and would not be a decision that would not be favored by the people closest to me. At that age I made the decision that I would do whatever it took to graduate one year ahead of my 2008 high school class and move out of state to attend college.

When I committed and decided that that was what I was going to do, despite what others said, I had many people around me telling me that it is not what I SHOULD do. That I SHOULD stay all 4 years in high school, that I SHOULD go to a local college in Arkansas when I graduate, that I SHOULD do what everyone else does.

In the path to our dreams, how many of us are so focused on the opinions that others have for our own life?

Napoleon Hill quotes:

“The number one reason people fail in life is because they listen to their friends, family, and neighbors.”

I don’t believe that Napolean Hill was saying that you should go through life and not take into considerations the feelings and opinions of the people closest to us. I believe that what he is saying is that in the path to our dreams, we have to do what WE feel is best for ourself and many times that requires us doing things that no one, not even the ones closest to us can understand.

Just like in my case when I was 15 years old, I had a dream and vision for my life on the inside, that no one could understand. I had to be willing to listen to my heart and to that voice that told me that I was doing the right thing and work toward that dream that I had that I could not explain to anyone else.

It was not easy, in fact it was quite difficult. I had to make a lot of sacrifices and put forth double the effort that most of my friends put forth to complete what I needed in time.

My effort and hard work paid off and in May 2007 I achieved my goal, graduated one year ahead of my class. In that following August, I moved away to attend my first year of school at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida.
